God’s Standard of Righteousness Satisfied
Your guilt overwhelms because of your standards. Every time. The standards you set that declare what must be. They only rise higher and higher, every time. And every time you reach out to meet them, to achieve them, to satisfy them, they only call out for more. Of you.
Every time.
It’s what standards do.
Because what they really are are ways to justify you. Ways to remove your guilt. Ways to make you acceptable. Ways to set you free. It's why we set standards. We believe they will justify our actions, like it is all up to us.
But you are only doing what is right in your own eyes.
As though having value were up to you.
No! It must not be!
For Christ Jesus came to set you free (John 8:32), to give you peace (Philippians 4:7), to make you acceptable and approved before God (Romans 3:24), to give you abundant life (John 10:10). And He can do it, don't you know?!
But those standards that you set. Those 'this is how it ought to look', 'this is how I ought to act', 'this is how they ought to respond'. You will never meet them, they will never do it right, and those circumstances will never justify. You.
For the guilt never leaves. Every time. Because what you do, what you say, what you achieve. It is never enough to bring you peace. Never enough to justify you. To make you right. No!
Only Christ Jesus has done it! He has made you right and acceptable and worthy. And in doing so, He has removed your guilt! (Romans 8:1)
So why do you set standards to live by? To make others live by?
When God has already set the standard, His standard of righteousness. And it is so high that none can reach it. And He did that on purpose. So that the glory and the power of Almighty God might be manifested in your mortal body, if you would believe. That Christ has satisfied God's standard of righteousness, of complete holiness before Him. That Christ has done it! And He is the only Way. For He is enough for life and joy and peace everlasting! Abundantly! Always!
In Christ! Where your standards pale and God’s standard becomes possible. All through Christ Jesus your Lord!
