So Much Higher

So you can’t keep up. You just can’t. Keep up. To the ideal. To the expectations. To the standards and qualifications. That you set, that others set, that you hold onto. How things are to go, how things are to be. The order and the right-way of things. The proper and the just-right of things. You just can’t keep up to it all.

To those standards that feel so high to attain.

But it’s not the height of them that makes them impossible. It’s not at all. Because the truth is them ideals fall so much lower than God’s. It’s true. All have fallen short of the glory of God. Your ideals, your expectations, your standards, they all fall short of God and His glory. They do.

It’s why you can’t keep up. It’s not the height of them, but the emptiness of them. Them ideals you set, they are what cause you to reach for so much less than what God has for you.

But God’s ways are so much higher because His ways are of Him, His ways are for you, and His ways always include you. That’s right, you. So you can be fully satisfied in Him. It’s the height of God’s ways that makes them possible because they are of Him, for you.

For Jesus came to earth and died for you. He rose victorious for you. And He is seated at the right hand of the Father interceding for you. Yes, His ways always include you!

So when you accept Christ. When you believe in Christ. When you trust and abide and rest in Christ. Knowing that His way is the Way. That His ideals and standards are His ways for you to know the end of you and the greatness of Him. You will have peace beyond understanding.

And though you can’t understand it. Though you can’t get used to it so as to ever understand it. And though you remain there, in awe at the wonder of His ways. Still, then you have peace beyond understanding.

Because when the seen, visible, and unnattainable tasks of this world, those deeds and standards and ideals that you fall into believing are set for you to reach, and you just can’t keep up. You can rest assured. You can know it is okay. It’s how you are supposed to feel, it’s what is supposed to happen. When you’re reaching on your own, to accomplish life on your own, it’s meant to feel impossible. The less-than is meant to feel impossibly not enough.

So that you will stop. So that you will look up, to Him. So you can know the power of His resurrection in you. The power of Christ, alone. So you can reach for the so much higher of Christ, instead. And there, find peace beyond understanding.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” - Isaiah 55:8-9

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:7
