Safe with Him!

It is your own might that does it. That keeps you away from God. That keeps you distant from Him, not wanting to draw near. Not wanting to do the one simple, child-like thing, to come. To simply come, as a child.

It is your own might, rooted in pride, beginning with one belief, that prevents you from coming to Him. And it’s been so ever since the beginning. That man has fallen into believing. Believing that God is not safe nor trustworthy. So you fall into believing it, that there is nothing safe about God. Even without noticing it, you hold Him at a distance. In all your pious talk and deeds, God remains far from you.

But beware, for surrender is only a mandatory giving-in when it is fear-based, and any attempt to come to Christ is only pure obligation when it is guilt-induced. It’s what happens. When God is not safe to you, fear and obligation rule, and distance happens. It’s true.

For it’s not surrender at all. It’s not coming to Him at all. It’s pride that reigns.

But God calls the humble. Because of His greatness and authority and power, He calls the humble. And God calls the true hearts, those longing for righteousness, those thirsting for holiness. God calls them. Those who are the weak, not the strong or determined. Those who are the humble, not the proud or self-righteous. God calls them. And they come.

Yes, only the weak come running when God calls, because they know they are safe with Him. Only the contrite come rejoicing when He calls, because they know they are forgiven, made right in Him. They know they are safe and made right because of Him. Because of God alone. Not because of their own might. No. It’s because of what He has done to rescue them.

So they can be safe with Him.

It’s what God does. A loving, a holy, an All-powerful God. A sovereign, omnipotent, great God. He calls, and He makes safe His children. He makes safe you. It has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with Him.

Because He loved first (1 John 4:19).
Because He created first (John 1:3).
Because He called first (Isaiah 41:8-10).
And He made alive first (Ephesians 2:5).

So you can know you are safe with Him. For He is safe. Safe for you to come to. Safe for you to surrender to. Safe for you.

And it’s where you will long to draw near to your Saviour and your God. Where you will find yourself running into His arms again and again. It’s where growth in Christ is abundant, and distance is unheard of. Because God is safe to you, and you are safe with Him!
