The Light

It’s not working harder. It’s not hiding longer. It’s not striving greater. No. Working to find satisfaction, hiding the hurt and shame to showcase ability and achievement, and striving to become acceptable are not it. No. It’s not what will set you free.

Hiding and keeping your distance from the Light by working and striving again and again won’t set you free. It will only keep you in the dark.

It’s only by stepping into the Light that you will be set free. Stepping into the Light, knowing your need for grace.

Because He’s done everything that’s ever needed doing to set you free from all of your chains. Already. Everything. The Light has conquered the dark, setting you free, already. It’s nothing you could ever do, not your working, not your hiding, not your striving.

When He died upon that cross, He took the penalty for all your sins. It is finished. Already.

Oh, that you would see and step out of the darkness. Step out of your hiding place of work and effort and striving. Step out of your tendency to run farther and farther from Christ, in all your attempts to find life. Oh, come to the Fount and be satisfied. Come to the Light and see. Come, dear child of His, come to His side, and find rest. And be set free.

For you are His and He is yours. And His life is yours, yours to have.

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” - John 1:4-5 (ESV)
