Holy Ground

You are asking what to do. “What is it?” you ask of the LORD. Directly, you ask of Him, “What is it You want me to do?”

Because you have come to that place of recognizing Him. Of seeing the Lord God Almighty. Where you are. So you ask. For you know He is in it. In all of it, all of life. You know He is working and orchestrating and directing every step of yours, every pause of circumstance, every unknown of life. He is in all of it. And you see Him.

So you ask what it is you must do. Because you cannot fathom what to do in that moment. You cannot know what to do in the Presence of the Almighty. You just cannot, aside from utter worship and complete awe of Him, you do not know what to do. So you ask, “What do You want me to do?”

For where you stand is holy ground.

Where you see Him, it is holy ground.

It’s where you fall before Him, and you worship only Him. It’s where you stand in awe of Him, because you see only Him.

For it’s holy ground you are standing on. Where you are standing, the place on which you stand before the Holy One. The place on which you meet God, and you see His glory and majesty. There. It is holy ground. Yes.

So you ask what to do.

And the answer comes loud and clear, very clearly and simply, “Take off your sandals.”

Take off what you hold as comfort, as protection, in this world here and now. Take off that covering of independence, that causes you to forge ahead. Take off every deed of self-righteousness. And come, bare-handed, bare-hearted, bare-footed before the Holy One. With nothing to give but yourself, set apart for Him. With nothing to hide in yourself, and everything given over to Him.

“What is it You want me to do, LORD? What is it?” you ask of Him. As you come, as you bow, as you surrender, day in and day out, moment by moment. Acknowledging Him, seeking Him, desiring only Him. So He replies with such assurance, “Remove your sandals, Child.” That’s it. That’s all. “For, remember, the place on which you stand is holy ground.”

So you obey. And right then, right there, you have come to the place where God leads and directs you. Yes, you have come to the place of pure joy - complete surrender to Him!

“...he replied. ‘I am the commander of the Lord’s army.’ At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. ‘I am at your command,’ Joshua said. ‘What do you want your servant to do?’ The commander of the Lord’s army replied, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.’ And Joshua did as he was told.” - Joshua 5:14-15(NLT)

“When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ Then he said, ‘Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.’” - Exodus 3:4-5 (ESV)
