All in Your Asking
So you ask for life, as you should, but you fall apart again. You ask for direction, as you must, but you stumble once again. You ask for wisdom and patience and understanding, as you need, but you only lose it once again. And life feels far away, moving forward feels impossible, and sanctification feels stagnant when your asking proves futile. So you chalk it up to your being a failure, like your asking is supposed to do wonders to your successes. And when it doesn’t, it’s all your fault, like it all depends on you.
But since when did receiving an answer have anything to do with your deserving it and seeing successful results have anything to do with your earning it?
If all you know is God is good, so good, despite your failings and stumblings. And all you do is ask, once more ask, and again ask. Then good! There is nothing more noble or pure, nothing more honourable than to know God is good and to be able to ask from Him. Because there you will find Him. And you will know of His goodness, His deep goodness, towards you. For you will see Him. And when you know He is good, so good to you, and all He requires of you is to ask, to seek His face and know Him, then you can trust Him.
So you ask, as you should. So you ask, for you should. Again and again. It’s where you will be ready to receive. It’s how He has designed life to be - dependent on Him by grace alone. For everything. Asking from Him for everything, for your very life.
So ask. And keep on asking. So expect. And keep on expecting. That’s what trust is - joyful expectancy of what God is going to do, in your asking, even when it feels like you aren’t going anywhere, aren’t changing, aren’t becoming any different. Because He will act, He will provide, He will answer. You have only to wait, depending on Him, trusting in Him. And. Not taking the blame for the length of the wait. Not taking the shame for the apparent unanswered prayers. Not taking the weight of it all upon your own shoulders, so as to say it is up to you to finish the job. No! You have only to ask and wait.
It’s how to see God is good and to trust Him. Your asking will do it. It will bring you to Christ. And you will see Christ as the true answer to everything when the successes of life fade in importance, and Christ becomes all to you! All in your asking!
